Did you know that our patented process was originally developed for application to the aerospace industry? That’s right – the aerospace industry relies on absolutely precise calculations, even slight mistakes can have disastrous results. So we meticulously developed the Extrude Hone AFM process to achieve highly accurate and repeatable results for the aerospace industry. Now companies in many more industries heavily depend on Extrude Hone AFM to surface finish and polish their components, including:
- Additive manufacturing
- Automotive
- Food processing
- Hydraulics
- Medical
- And more
We process dies, molds, gears, turbines, and pumps, and specialize in EDM recast removal. We continue to develop our patented process and apply it to more industries.
Controlling the amount of material that is removed during EH
If you work in the aerospace industry, you may be wondering how Extrude Hone AFM can enhance your components. There are plenty of reasons why sending your components to Extrude Hone AFM is highly recommended. The most frequently heard question we often hear from people of all industries, including aerospace, is: How do you control the amount of material that is removed?
Each application is custom designed
There are so many variables involved in the Extrude Hone AFM process. Primary variables include the tooling, media flow pressure, the viscosity, and the abrasive concentration of the media. Each of these primary variables, as well as many minor variables, are specifically adjusted to achieve exact intended results. How much material is removed depends on the roughness of the surface at the start, the inner dimensions of the passages being processed, type of material, etc. An average machined finish would require removal of about .0015 inch of material.
Each application of the Extrude Hone AFM is specially designed and calibrated to remove the exact intended amount of material from the surface, resulting in a truly pristine surface finish after every single application.
Military specifications
We often receive inquiries from those who work in the aerospace industry about whether our process conforms to military specifications. Yes, Extrude Hone AFM is compliant with Mil-I-45208A and its successor, AS9003.
Dimensional tolerances
Another essential question we frequently hear is, “What dimensional tolerances can the Extrude Hone process hold?” Our process can hold tolerances within 1-ten thousandths of an inch (.00001). For comparison’s sake, a human hair is about 3 to 4 thousandths of an inch in diameter (.003-.004). That’s some 30-40 graduations of the tolerances we can hold.
