AFM process
Did you know that our abrasive flow machining (AFM) process is totally customizable to your exact specifications? That’s right, whether you have one part or many thousands, we always carefully calibrate our process to achieve the exact intended results. During AFM, the abrasive media flows through the workpiece, effectively performing abrasion. Abrasive particles in the media contact raised positive features on the surface of the workpiece and remove them completely, deburring and polishing the surface. A hydraulic ram forces the media through the workpiece, turning it into a flexible file or slug that molds itself precisely to the exact shape of the workpiece, which yields unparalleled results.
AFM is a fully controllable machining process. We control the media flow rate and pressure, volume, and type of media and media temperature to yield exact intended results. For every application of the AFM process, the surface improvement, radius generation, and/or stock removal can be determined in advance and monitored in each application to ensure complete repeatability.

EDM recast removal
Protect your EDM processed parts from tensile stresses by having us remove the recast layer. Our AFM process can remove EDM’s recast layer from molds, dies, and other parts that have been machined by this method. Our surface finishing process enables your EDM process parts to resist crack propagation. It also helps in forming process and part release for molds and dies.
We can polish a 1 micron (40Ra) surface finish down to a 0.1 micron (4RA) surface finish without altering the required shape of the workpiece.
