Even better than a gift from Santa
But since you’re an adult, do you know what would be even better than getting gifts from Santa? Ensuring your metal machinery performs at an optimal level every single day. But how could it do that, you may be asking yourself? The answer is simple – send all your most essential metal machined components to Extrude Hone AFM to undergo our patented process.
You’ll be amazed by how much better your components perform after being extrude honed. Custom-calibrated abrasive media is forced through each passageway of the component to meticulously remove burrs and polish each surface. This results in clear, burr-free passageways in every part of your metal components, as even the hardest-to-reach areas are deburred and polished.
The rate at which material is removed from the surface by the abrasive media slug depends on various factors of the workpiece and media:
- Type of material
- Hardness of material
- Quality or density of material
- Size and amount of passages to be processed
- Media flow rate or speed of each pass or cycle
- Media carrier viscosity: high, medium, low, or different of 2 will change the characteristics of the media’s effectiveness on different materials and hole sizes
- Abrasive particle size: ranging from a fine powder-like 1000-grit to 8-grit comparable to small rocks or gravel
- Abrasive concentration per pound of media
Highly customized process
Every time someone contacts us to get an estimate for any kind of metal component, we customize our process to achieve exact intended results. AFM is a controllable machining process. The media flow rate, pressure, volume, type of media, media temperature, and, as a result, the amount of material that is removed can be adjusted according to each metal component’s needs. Each application of the AFM process is carefully recorded – surface finish improvement, radius generation, and/or stock removal is always determined and noted to ensure repeatability.
