Surface finish on cast blades is improved from an original 70 micro inch finish to a 16 micro inch (ra). Get increased fatigue strength with precise, polished edge radii on the attachment features of disks and blades after they go through the AFM process. Highly stressed components can also be improved with the absolute removal of thermal machining recast after EDM or laser machining. Another result of sending components to Extrude Hone AFM will be that when the material is removed from the blades as well as the resulting surface improvement on the blade faces will enable more balanced flow capability and added flow capacity, especially at high rpm.
