Abrasive flow machining (AFM) is also known as abrasive flow deburring or extrude honing. It’s an interior surface finishing process that happens by flowing an abrasive-laden fluid through a workpiece. The abrasive-laden fluid often has the consistency of putty or dough. The purpose of AFM is to smooth and finish rough surfaces on an interior surface, in slots, holes, cavities, and other areas of a workpiece that are difficult to reach with other polishing or grinding processes. Without AFM, materials various industries depend on would not be properly prepared to be used frequently.
